At My Health ETC., We're dedicated to being the number one resource for CBD in Arizona. Regardless of how familiar you are with actually taking CBD oil products, you’re probably aware by now that there is a long list of CBD benefits that these products might be able to provide.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical compound sourced from the industrial hemp plant. Unlike THC, it doesn’t produce a mentally altering “high,” and has been federally legal since the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill. And, while there are quite a few different kinds of CBD out there, what they all have in common is their strong potential to provide a wide range of health benefits for both people and pets. This includes relief from common physical and mental health ailments, including pain and anxiety.
To help break it all down, we’ve put together this guide that dives a little deeper into the purported benefits of non-GMO CBD. Here’s what you should know.
CBD for Stress, Anxiety, and Depression
Lots of people take CBD oil for mental health, either as needed or as part of their daily routine.
Research is still ongoing, but early studies suggest that CBD interacts with serotonin receptors in the brain in positive ways. This may explain why so many individuals find it effective for helping with stress and anxiety, as well as for depression relief.
Other mental health benefits that CBD may be able to provide include support with social anxiety disorder (SAD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and anxiety-induced insomnia.
Can CBD Help with ADHD?
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can be a tricky disorder to diagnose and treat.
We’re still lacking in scientific evidence on whether or not CBD helps with ADHD (studies are currently in progress), but there is some research suggesting it can help with the symptoms of the disorder—and with much fewer side effects than those experienced with traditional ADHD treatments.
Unlike stimulant medications, which often cause weight loss, headache, mood changes, and insomnia, few people experience side effects when taking CBD oil for ADHD or other ailments, especially when using it in appropriate doses.
Does CBD Help with Seizures?
Here’s another area where more proof is needed but where the use of CBD does seem to suggest quite a lot of promise.
Early research shows that CBD is a natural anti-inflammatory, and that it may be able to help regulate cell cycles and immune cell functions. It is also showing potential as an anticonvulsant, which has heightened interest in its use as a treatment option for those with epilepsy, especially children.
It looks like CBD can help with seizures in pets, too. One small study found that 89% of dogs who received CBD as a seizure treatment experienced a reduction in the frequency of their seizures. So while we still have a lot to learn about CBD and seizures, there is reason to think that it may grow in popularity for these sorts of treatments.
Does CBD Help with Parkinson’s Disease?
Parkinson’s Disease is a chronic and progressive neurological illness caused by nerve cell damage in the brain. Symptoms include tremors, stiffness, and loss of both balance and ease of movement.
There have been some studies showing the benefits of CBD for Parkinson’s, including a 2020 study that found a 300 mg dose of CBD was useful for decreasing anxiety in Parkinson’s Disease patients, and another study showing it may even play a role in preventing the disease.
Once again, we’re lacking a full scope of scientific research, but there’s plenty of reason to be hopeful based on what we already know.
Can CBD Help with Pain Relief?
Here’s one area where we do have quite a bit of information, though more studies are still in progress. Pain relief is one of CBD’s most common uses, with many individuals finding that it can help with everything from general inflammation and muscle aches to arthritis, osteoporosis, migraines, and glaucoma. It could also have benefits for relieving chronic pain and some of its side effects, such as sleep troubles.
These benefits suggest that CBD could be a safe alternative for many people who are in need of pain relief but who don’t want to turn to habit-forming narcotics. Not only is CBD non-addictive, but it also doesn’t have the side effects of opiates, making it a much safer option, especially for long-term use.
The Benefits Of CBD For Pets
It’s not just people who can experience benefits from CBD. The list of what CBD oil can do for pets is long, and includes things like reducing anxiety, helping with the management of seizures and epilepsy, and relief from pain. It may also be able to help with inflammatory bowel disease, chronic inflammation, and autoimmune diseases, as well as provide protection for a pet’s nervous and cardiovascular systems.
There are lots of hemp tinctures and edibles for pets that interested pet parents can explore. We recommend starting with a low dose to see how your pet reacts and then gradually adjusting from there. And of course, always stick to pet-safe products, and never give your pet a CBD product that is intended only for human use.
